The URBORETUM Project - for a Greener Future in the City
Urban and peri-urban forests are crucial for our well-being, but climate change and urbanization are threatening their health. In the URBORETUM project, we are researching the ecological processes that influence urban trees and their ecosystem services and investigating their positive impact on human well-being. Our aim is to improve the management of urban forests through practical research.
Our diverse consortium of research institutes and companies is working on these challenges in seven specialized work packages. Based on our research, we develop solutions for the care and preservation of urban trees together with the Karlsruhe Horticultural Office as a practical partner. In this way, we aim to promote sustainable urban development.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the URBORETUM project as part of the ‘Regional innovation groups for a climate-friendly forestry and timber industry (REGULUS)’ funding programme. REGULUS is part of the Research for Sustainability (FONA) strategy.
