TreeCityKA - Municipal Practice Partner
As a municipal practice partner in the URBORETUM joint project, the City of Karlsruhe plays a supporting role together with the Horticultural Department as the specialist department responsible for urban trees and forests. This support is provided on the one hand by ensuring application-oriented research and on the other hand by directly integrating the project results into the practice and processes of the city of Karlsruhe. In addition, the aim is to transfer the project results to other large and small cities where possible. In the URBORETUM project, the City of Karlsruhe sees itself as a link between theory and practice, i.e. between science and city administration. This structure in the joint project with a municipal practice partner ensures that work can be carried out in a target-, future- and application-oriented manner. This means that the results do not have to be elaborately processed after the project in order to be implemented. The city expects the cooperation to provide better access to new technologies, their testing and the exchange of the latest developments from science and industry. The project partners are supported in achieving their objectives by providing and collecting data, discussing issues and objectives and accompanying the research process. Progress is expected as a result of the project, particularly in landscape architecture and open space planning (planning department), in tree inspection and tree care and generally in the green spaces department, in Karlsruhe the horticultural department. However, other departments such as the Office for Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety, the Forestry Office, the Property Office and the Office for Digitization and Information Technology will also be involved as required. The results of the Talking Trees, the digital tree twins and the studies on the ecosystem services of urban trees could be of particular value to the city of Karlsruhe.
