Preparations for the tree irrigation experiment
In order to better understand the effects of drought and irrigation patterns on different tree species, we are conducting an irrigation experiment for which we have already made preparations.
We have ordered advanced measuring instruments for almost 50 selected trees, including sap flow sensors, digital tape dendrometers and soil water potential sensors. These devices enable us to monitor the water balance of the trees and record changes in response to drought or irrigation.
At the same time, we examine the potential test trees in detail using the ARBOTOM. This special device enables us to determine the wood density and detect signs of wood rot. Only healthy trees can be included in our experiment.
In the coming months, the selected trees will be fitted with the measuring instruments (see image).
Our irrigation experiment will start in March 2025 and run until the end of 2026.
